A cool start into summer complements the opening of the electric blue flowers of Meconopsis × sheldonii. The flowers are at their best on overcast days and especially misty days. The lilies growing in various beds are all about to open their buds. The graceful lantern like flowers of Lilium lophophorum have just opened a shave those of Lilium martagon.

On the way up to the Alpine Garden a short diversion to Schachengrund is worthwhile. Here Doronicum grandiflorum, various Gentians, Gentiana clusii, G. acaulis and G. verna, are in flower with Pinguicula alpina on the lower moist east facing slopes.
